Acer AME600-UR378 Desktop (Black)

Acer AME600-UR378 Desktop (Black)

CUSTOMER REVIEW

Top of the line processer for "not that much." I've had the computer for a couple of weeks and compared to my Vista HP, it's night and day. Web pages just flash by without hesitation. My pictures are "breath taking." E mails load instantly. As far as Windows 8 there is a learning curve but I'm finally getting used to it and it's not that bad. The only thing on Acer's part that kind of irritates me is the hard drive which is 5400 rpm, when most drives now days are 7200 rpm. I'm not sure if it makes a whole lot of difference but it is kind of "hope you don't notice" kind of thing. I still would recommend this computer because it is a lot of bang for the buck.

Feb. 14, 2013... I just started playing Far Cry 3 on this computer. Far Cry 3 is very graphics intensive, so I thought it would be a good test to see if the Acer could handle it. I have not installed any upgrades, including using the Intel intergrated graphic system that came with the computer.I have been pleasantly surprised. The game is beautiful and runs with no lag at all. My older computer with a graphics card shuts itself off because it gets so hot playing this game. The Acer runs cool and quiet. Granted, I can only use medium settings, after that the frame rate is slow, but still the details are good. I can only imagine the potential of adding a graphics card. All in all for a stock computer it handles itself well.

Raspberry Pi Complete Starter Kit -- [Model B - 512 MB]

Raspberry Pi Complete Starter Kit -- [Model B - 512 MB]

CUSTOMER REVIEW

Just received this kit, faster and more than I expected. Note the picture and item title above showing just the Raspberry Pi case is not what this review (and the other reviews on this page) is for. This is for the "Raspberry Pi Ultimate Starter Kit -- Includes Raspberry Pi Board + 11 Essential Accessories."

You get, beside the Raspberry Pi credit card computer: (1) a clear case, (2) a WiFi USB adapter, (3) a loaded SD card, (4) a 5v power wart w/USB jack, (5) a USB to micro USB jack (for power to the Pi), (6) a HDMI cable (for video to a monitor), (7) a prototyping board (same size as the Pi), (8) a USB to open pins cable (I'm guessing for powering the prototyping board), (9) a bundle of jumpers, (10) a short ribbon cable, and (11) an adapter to plug the ribbon cable to the prototyping board.

Everything you need except instructions. For that - buy a book!

CybertronPC Borg-Q GM4213A Desktop (Blue)

CybertronPC Borg-Q GM4213A Desktop (Blue)

CUSTOMER REVIEW

I ordered this computer because my HP finally quit after I had been limping it along for a year or so. What I vowed when my HP started acting up was that the next computer I would replace it with would NOT be a Big Name / Big Box computer.

I wanted what used to be called a “clone” or generic computer with a good case, strong power supply and separate components that I can update and change when they die etc.

I searched a lot, read lots of reviews and found a number of computers that fit the bill.

HOWEVER, after reading reviews for CybertronPC’s computers (many that were high dollar rigs) and the raves about their customer service, I found this one, The Borg-Q that fit my budget and had all the features (except I wanted Windows 7 and not the crappy 8 or 8.1 stuff. More on that in a minute) that I wanted.

So ordered it here on Amazon. We have Prime so in 2 days (free shipping) this HUGE box arrives at my door. It was packaged SOOO well with huge foam blocks to support it.

Plugged it in, fired it up (blue lights glowing and all) and it went. No bloat ware really. Couple of useful apps. Just a clean running machine. I’m writing this review on it now.

Windows 8 (this version is the new 8.1 which just means Microsoft tried to fix the major screw-up that Win8 is in my opinion) started up loaded and runs fine for what it is. I had already decided that I would put Win7 on the computer, but when I realized that you have to have the Pro edition of Win7 for it use more than 12GB of RAM (I plan to upgrade this sometime to 32) and the fairly hefty price tag on win7 pro or ultimate, I decided to tweak Win8 and try it out for a while putting the Borg-Q thru its paces. So I cleaned up Win8 after reading stuff online to do. I’m knowledgeable but NO expert. Purchased Retro UI for Windows 8.1 (very important that you get the version for 8.1) for $5, loaded it. Ran a registry cleaner and BAM I am happy.

In fact after over 3 weeks with Retro UI on the CybertronPC Borg-Q running Windows 8.1 I AM VERY HAPPY.

Most of all I LOVE the craftsmanship and attention to detail that the Borg-Q exhibits. I opened the case to look around and everything is tucked away, zip-tied up and nice and neat. All the component choices are good quality products that I researched individually. Not top-of-the-line, high dollar stuff … BUT GOOD name brand components. The heat sync alone is impressive.

So after 3 weeks of loading all my software, applications and using a tweaked version of Win 8.1, I would CERTAINLY buy a Cybertronpc computer again.

So i have been shopping around for a gaming pc and saw alot of reviews on the Ibuypower and Cyberpower pcs that alot of ppl got them and they had problems with them not working correctly and that both companies had horrible customer service. I didnt see any reviews on the Cybertrons but after reading about the 24-7 customer service for life and the 1 yr warranty i gave it a shot and bought it. This computer does what is advertised and the price is awesome. I got this pc for Diablo 3 and WoW and it runs D3 at 60 fps on ultra settings without a hitch. Out of the box it booted up fine no problems and has been great so far and if your looking for a gaming pc on a budget this is def the one i would get

Apple iMac ME089LL/A 27-Inch Desktop (NEWEST VERSION)

Apple iMac ME089LL/A 27-Inch Desktop (NEWEST VERSION)

CUSTOMER REVIEW

I've been very pleased with this 21.5" iMac so far which in my opinion is one of the best computers available in its class. It is powerful, a workhorse if you will, and very well designed in terms of aesthetics and functionality.

PACKAGING - Includes 21.5" iMac, Charging cable, Wireless keyboard, and Magic Mouse. Like most Apple's products, the packaging is thoughtfully done. All tape pieces are easily removed with the individual tabs attached to them. After set up it has a clean look on my desk, there is no clutter due to the fact that the keyboard and mouse connect wirelessly. Opening the box to setting it up took maybe 5 minutes tops.

FORM FACTOR - This iMac is super thin from the sides and light enough for one-handed portability if required. The external body is the same as the 2012 model, which in itself was significantly improved over the 2011 version. The back is slightly curved at the center and I am guessing all the components are packed in this bulge at the center back. The front glass seems to sit more flush with the body compared to the earlier version which had a tiny little gap. Has a super sleek look to it overall.

SCREEN - Perhaps the most pleasing aspect of this iMac is its screen. Given the amount of real estate you get combined with the stunning LED-backlit display, it's a pleasure using the screen with its vibrant colors and low glare. Apple claims this model has 75 percent less glare than previous versions - there's no way for me to measure this but suffice it to say that even with the screen turned off, the screen is not really reflective. Once it's turned on, the reflections die down even further. Images are crisp and pictures we have taken with our DSLR camera seem further enhanced given the resolution of the screen. No retina display for iMacs just yet, but this is feels very very close to it.

PORTS and CONNECTIONS - Apple had already done away with the optical drive, which means that to read/burn CDs or DVDs, we can either connect an external drive like Apple's Superdrive to the USB port, or feed off another PC/Mac (this has to be on the same network) that has a built-in optical drive. If you are considering getting an external drive, I personally would recommend the Samsung SE-208AB/TSBS External DVD-Writer - Black which performs the same function and is $40 cheaper than Apple's super drive. For the initial set up, I was able to wirelessly transfer all files to the iMac using the "Migration Assistant" utility on the iMac - it took a minute to start the process and all files transferred themselves in about 6 hours over the Wi-Fi network. Didn't have the need for an external drive, though that would have been a much faster process.

On the back, there is a SDXC memory card slot, couple of Thunderbolt ports, headphone jack, USB ports, and an ethernet port. It's good they are at the back since they avoid cable clutter from the desk, but connecting wires into them takes that small effort of getting up and plugging in the cable at the back. Not a major issue for me, the only port I will need to use is the USB port for my printer which doesn't support wireless connection.

HARDWARE - Tech specs are all specified above in the product details of the listing. That said, with a 1TB hard drive, 2.7GHz Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of DDR3 memory (split into two 4GB slots), this Mac basically has more than enough in terms of processing and storage capacity for my needs. Graphic designers and users that require super memory or processing prowess, they can perhaps judge for themselves if this will suffice.

ACCESSORIES - The iMac comes with a wireless keyboard and a magic mouse. The keyboard is a standard Apple keyboard, but I have found it to be slightly small for me personally. Takes some getting used to. Instead of using the Magic Mouse, I had considered getting Apple's Magic Trackpad because that is very similar to the MBPro trackpad that I have used extensively. However, having used the mouse for a few days now, I am sticking with it - just a personal preference. The Magic Mouse also lets you scroll down lengthy web pages without having to move to the side to grab the scroll bar. Just a swipe of the finger on the mouse moves the page down or up. It can also be configured to register right clicks. Somewhat similar in terms of functionality to the magic trackpad.

BOTTOMLINE - There are two versions of the 21.5" iMac, one with a 2.7GHz i5 processor and the other with a 2.9GHz i5 at an additional $200-$300. I went with the 2.7Hz which is good enough for me personally. Given the sleek form factor, absolutely gorgeous display, pretty good quality built-in speakers, front facing camera, and more than sufficient technical specs for the ordinary user like me, this is a great buy. If portability is not an issue, this in my opinion is definitely the device of choice over the MB Pro.

CUSTOMER REVIEW

I purchased this desktop to be used as a point of sale system in my business. I haven't used it a lot, but from what I can see so far, it looks to be a decent computer for the price. It does run a little on the slow side, but I am running some memory hogging software on it. I just love that I no longer need to worry about my CPU being on the floor where it could be accidentally kicked or spilled on. In fact, I'm seriously considering using a bit of museum putty on the base of the monitor to keep it from accidentally being moved.

This unit arrived promptly, well shipped and packaged. As specified it comes pre loaded with Windows 8, which I immediately wiped for Windows 7. I am Technology Director for a medium sized non-profit, business computers are my life. I tend to stay away from All-In-Ones but the user had limited space. This unit is well built, very solid and aesthetically pleasing. I would compare is over all size and weight to a similar sized Mac. The internal hardware is decent and reasonable for the money. The best part for me about this unit is Dell provides Windows 7 driver support, something that HP(unfortunately) is lacking in. My only complaint if any would be in the quality of the wireless mouse/keyboard(which isn't at all bad but could be better), also the fact that they require a usb adapter instead of internal bluetooth. However, I knew this going in and it is really an non issue.

Samsung Series 7 DP700A3D-A01US 23-Inch All-in-One Touchscreen Desktop

Samsung Series 7 DP700A3D-A01US 23-Inch All-in-One Touchscreen Desktop

CUSTOMER REVIEW

There's a few of these touchscreen enabled Windows 8 all-in-ones that have hit the market recently - I've played with the Samsung 23 inch and 27 inch models. I also considered the Acer and Dell models but the Acer was under-powered, and the Dell seemed over-priced. I'll focus on the computer and not on Windows 8 (there's enough on that all over the net). First the pros:

1. Fast and smooth computer - boots up fast, the OS and programs are generally spiffy.

2. Graphics processing is good. Can play games without issues.

3. Display is bright and clean - could be higher res (Dell, Apple Thunderbolt) but I can't tell the difference. You will want to turn down the default brightness though.

4. Nice looking computer.

5. Good connectivity - connecting to the wifi network, bluetooth devices, etc. was fast and painless.

6. Touch screen is responsive and cool (though not very useful - see below).

Now the irritants that take away two stars for this:

1. Wireless keyboard and mouse are terrible - Samsung packaged what looks like a $5 pair of accessories with their high end Win 8 computer. Figure on spending some more on a decent Logitech keyboard, mouse.

2. This was in the specs, so its as much my fault for buying the computer anyway - the hard drive is 5400rpm. This should have come with a 7200rpm HDD at the very least, if not an HDD/SSD combo.

3. Gesture control is either a sham, or I'm doing something very wrong. I haven't managed to get a single gesture to work yet.

4. The stand doesn't allow the computer to tilt (see comparable Acer computer).

5. This is not really a con about the computer itself - do yourself a favor and buy the non-touchscreen version of the computer. If you are using it on a desk, it is much more convenient to use the mouse than it is to reach over and touch the screen. So after the first couple of days when you show off your cool new touchscreen computer, you will hardly ever touch the screen again.

Overall, a decent buy - but Samsung could have made it so much better if they had just not cut some corners.

CUSTOMER REVIEW

I usually don't write reviews on Amazon but had to login to make a debuttal to the ignorant reviewer below. Just to clarify, I am neither an Amazon employee nor any employee of corporation; I am simply just an average joe college student at UC Berkeley studying Business and Computer Science. Although I may not be the most technocratic students there are, I know for a fact that this desktop is a decent one. Do Ignore the commenter below who stated that the Dell website offers better price than Amazon during Lightning Deal.

First of all, if this is your first time buying a mid-high end PC, the very first thing that you want to look at when you compare one PC to another, CHECK THE CPU FIRST!!! This applies to all the PCs that are factory built (pre-built). The one sold by Amazon is equipped with Intel Core i7-4770 Processor 3.9 GHz, which is one of the very best processors these days. You can check it yourself by going to: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i7-4770+%40+3.40GHz. You will see that this processor is ranked #32 out of 1000+ CPUs, which is quite an impressive performance considering the cost. Most of the top 50 CPUs have extremely high price tag, which are usually not cost-effective.

Comparing this CPU with the one sold in Dell.com with minimum hardware upgrade, the CPU for the base $550 budget computer is Intel i5-4440, which is only an average-mid performance CPU with #149 out of 1000+ CPUs (Please see: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i5-4440+%40+3.10GHz). On top of that, how can you compare Amazon's Free Prime Two-Day shipping with free return shipping eligibility to Dell.com, who will ship your product with the slowest shipping and ask you to come to their Dell Department Store or make you pay return shipping if you want to return them.

I know that Black Friday deals are sometimes overrated these days and I understand that some people are frustrated around the holiday gift buying hours, but please get your fact straight before posting on Amazon Review so that other users who were interested in purchasing the item can make a rational choices with most background information possible.

I am not saying that this computer is the best PC out there, but it is pretty great considering you only pay around $700 for a Brand New PC with an impressive CPU Performances and plenty of hardware upgrade capability. I would advise that if you do purchase this PC, be sure to install a separate Graphics Card that are on sale during holiday shopping seasons. It is extremely easy to do and you can just youtube or google on how to install Graphics Card. If you are looking for a great performance PC that can handle multi-tasking, hardcore gaming, blu-ray movie streaming, buy this desktop and buy some RAM Memory that are compatible with this PC and Graphics Card that matches your budget (there is no need to overspend on graphics card unless you are an extremely technocratic gamer). Be sure to cover your PC with extended warranty from Squaretrade, so that you can guarantee that the machine will not fail for 3-4 years (all machines are bound to fail sometimes, not just this one).

I will be sure to update this review when I receive the product. Happy shopping and have a wonderful time with your family during holidays!

CUSTOMER REVIEW

I ordered this on 4/12/13 and it was delivered the next day. Here are my initial thoughts. I'll add to this as I use it more. Asus took a cue from Apple with their packaging. Very clean and orderly. Cables are tie with velcro straps, no twisty ties. Batteries included for the keyboard/mouse. The mouse's power was toggled to off. Don't forget to turn it on! The tablet/monitor was delivered with nearly zero power. You have to charge it above 20% before it will update to the latest version of Android that Asus provides (4.1.1). Windows 8 needed what seemed like a lot of patches for a system that just came out. I'm using 802.11n on both the tablet as well as the base to a Netgear WNDR3700 and get approximately 190mbit for file transfers. For reference, my home file server will completely saturate the gigabit connection to my desktop. The base/tablet are in the same small room as the router. The Win8 computer's 1TB drive came formatted with 750GB dedicated to a data drive (D:) with the rest for system / recovery.

As far as the Android side, the Tegra 3 in the tablet is plenty fast for my needs. I'm using a beta build of XBMC for Android with hardware acceleration and it handles 720p / 1080p mkv's marvelously. I've tried a few tegra specific games and they run great as expected. So far the only issue that I've run across that has me disappointed is Amazon Prime instant videos using flash. The audio is out of sync no matter what browser I try to use. I'm quite disappointed in Amazon for not having an android app yet. That's not Asus's fault though. The wireless signal on 5ghz isn't too great so far. I've got 802.11n capable laptop that seems to get a much stronger signal in my home. Even with a android showing 1 bar of signal I can still get > 55mbit speed. The audio coming out of the tablet is loud. VERY loud. It's a bit on the tinny side but still good. The audio from the base (different speakers) is a bit better but still in need of some base. Definitely worth picking up some PC speakers.

Now for the user experience. The IPS panel is gorgeous. The touchscreen is VERY smooth and responsive in both Windows and Android. The experience is not quite as responsive when using Win8 away from the base. It's very usable, mind you, but it is obvious that you aren't attached anymore. I've only tried a few PC games so far. I've been replaying Portal 2 and Torchlight 2 recently so I tried both on this system. They play great with everything maxed. Torchlight 2 works fine with a touch screen though I didn't see any immediate way to "right click" with touch. Portal 2, on the other hand, was unusable with touch. I could even play Torchlight 2 with the touch screen away from the base but the FPS dropped noticeably.

The tablet is definitely heavy. You're not going to carry it around and use it in your hands. It's fun to use on the couch though or propped up on a TV tray. It did not handle direct sunlight well in Android mode. Though it has a camera, it doesn't sense light in the room which means you need to adjust the brightness yourself. Speaking of which, the webcam is mediocre.

There a few negatives that made this a 4 instead of 5.

* Sometimes the transition between desktop monitor mode to tablet remote control mode gets.. confused.

* Webcam doesn't work in Skype on android side of things. It's also not very good.

* Wireless radio in the tablet is poor or the signal measurement is faulty.

Wow. Just wow. This is the best-kept secret in computers. I own a professional photography and video production studio and needed a new workstation for HD video editing. I thought I'd give this a try after receiving a recommendation from a friend to use gaming computers for video production. This computer has all the specs I need for a solid workstation; fast processor, great video card, 16 GB RAM, 1 TB hard drive. All for a third of the price of a "custom" computer from some larger companies. It is an excellent starting point for my needs. I simply added a couple SSD's and a blu-ray burner and I now have a beast of a machine. The Windows 8 operating system takes a little getting used to but you can upgrade to the superior 8.1 for free. This machine comes with absolutely no bloatware. Will soon be updating my other workstations with more of these!
